Suspects In Stor-All Theft Missing
Friday, May 9, 2008- Elko Police say the managers of a local storage and moving rental business are suspects in the theft of money from the Lamoille Highway establishment.

Dahl Filing For County Commission Seat
Thursday, May 8, 2008- The race for at least one Elko County Commission seat now has two candidates with the Tuesday filing by cattle rancher Demar Dahl in District #1. Dahl is a Star Valley rancher who also owns businesses in Fallon and the Geyser Ranch located in both White Pine and Lincoln counties.

Russell Files For Public Office
Wednesday, May 7, 2008- A two-term County Commissioner is hoping to win a third four-year seat as filing for public office continues. Warren Russell rode a wooden elephant to victory in previous contests but is hoping his newest mode of transportation, a motorcycle, will appeal to voters' sense of conservation.

Wednesday, May 7, 2007- United Blood Services is in town encouraging donors to give the gift of life with a drive underway this week from Elko to Spring Creek, Wells and Carlin. Remember you must be in good health to donate blood, eat a good meal and bring your ID.

Filing For Public Office Continues
Tuesday, May 6, 2008- Filing is open for numerous Elko County seats up for grabs this fall. A trio of candidates made it official on the first day, including two hopefuls for separate county commission positions and an incumbent for a school board seat. Filing continues through next Friday, May 16th at the Clerk's Office or in Carson City for statewide and congressional seats.

Friday, May 2, 2008- Police Lt. Don Zumwalt says an Elko man initially named by the victim as a suspect in the attack is now cooperating with officers in their investigation to find the person who may be responsible.

A Year Of Change For GBC
Friday, May 2, 2008- 2009 will be a year of change for Great Basin College but longtime Nevada System of Higher Education Regent Dorothy Gallaghers says Elko's institution will be in good hands as a search is conducted to replace President Dr. Paul Killpatrick. Former GBC Vice President Carl Diekhans will fill in the position in the interim.

Elko Recognized As Storm Ready
Thursday, May 1, 2008- The National Weather Service Office has recognized the City of Elko as a Storm Ready Community, joining more than 13-hundred towns and cities nationwide that have strengthened communication and preparedness in the event of extreme weather or hazardous events. Meteorologist in Charge Kevin Baker will present a plaque to city officials during the May 13 regular meeting in council chambers beginning at 4 p.m.

Friends For Life Hosting Benefit
Thursday, May 1, 2008- It's a chance to help a man who has dedicated much of his life and resources to help others now that he is battling a life-threatening condition. Thursday, May 8, 2008- The Elko County School District took time to recognize Staff and Teachers, Achieving Results for Students with their officials STARS program, suprising winners on campus with the news they had been singled out by their peers, students and parents for honors.

Fire Drill Without The Flames
Wednesday, April 30, 2008- It was a fire drill without the flames for Elko City firefighters who used the demolition of the old El Aero Services Building as a chance to train. Deputy Fire Chief Dan Landa says the team entered the building in full SCBA gear even though a stimulated smoke machine was used to provide a realistic scene setting.

Monday, April 28, 2008- A 23-year veteran of the Elko City Police Department is leaving behind his career as a seasoned detective who has used his talents to nab white collar criminals, made a dent in drug crime and launched new homeland security measures in addition to resolving some of the city's most serious crimes, from theft to homicide.
