High School Sports Realignment
Friday, February 5, 2010 - School Superintendents from across the state have agreed to a money-saving move that will shift sports play across all divisions beginning this fall. Jeff Zander is the Elko County Superintendent of Schools and says the impending realignment should also prop up school spirit. The action is expected to be approved by the Board of Control in March and would impact sports competition beginning this fall.

Families filled Adobe Middle School on Thursday night to participate in crafts, visit with authors and listen to student reader's theater.
Idaho Man Discovers Stolen Vehicle Online
Thursday, February 4, 2010- A Meridian, Idaho man will get his stolen dune buggy back after spotting the machine while surfing online recently. According to Elko County Sheriff Dale Lotspeich, the victim called the department to identify the sand rail. Ponce was being held on 5-thousand-dollars bail at the Elko County Jail on suspicion of possession of stolen property.
Elko Police Warn of ATM Scam
Wednesday, Janauary 3, 2010- Elko Police are warning residents who use ATM ‘s to be aware of the latest scam in which skilled thieves are employing electronics to steal your PIN numbers and gain access to your accounts and credit cards. Police Captain Will Lehmann said anyone using an ATM, whether at a bank or other location, needs to look carefully for any attached devices before using the machine. Police advise if have concerns about recent transactions to contact your bank and check your receipts. Don’t use any machine that appears suspicious.
Elko County Reads At Adobe Middle School
Wednesday, February 3, 2010- It’s a night to snuggle up for a good read, children are expected to take their families to Adobe Middle School for Thursday nights Elko County Reads event that includes reader’s theatre, visiting authors, free books and outreach by various community programs. All ages are invited to visit with Nevada authors and have a chance to win a Dell netbook computer.
Wells Judge Receives Award
Tuesday, February 2, 2010- Wells JP and Municipal Judge Pat Calton was named one of Nevada's top judges. She was surprised with the award last month in Reno.
Elko Sees Declining Sales Tax Revenue
Thursday, January 28, 2010- Declining sales tax revenue is not only hurting the state coffers but also the City of Elko’s budget. During Tuesday night’s city council meeting, the city received the news they were anticipating another month of low sales tax receipts. Dawn Stout with the City of Elko updates us on the November numbers and how it’s affecting the budget.
Barrick Files Motion over Cortez Hills
Thursday, January 28, 2010 - Some might call it a set-back for Barrick Gold of north America over the legal battle with the Cortez Hills project, Barrick says they’ve filed a motion in the U.S. District Court in Reno seeking permission to continue work at the Cortez Hills project with the BLM completes more court-ordered studies on the mine’s enviormental impacts. Lou Schack with Barrick Gold of North America says if they can’t continue to work on the project it will cost jobs and will impact the tax that the goldmine pays. Schack says the project is already 98 percent finished and is already producing ore.
Deputies Make Drug Bust on I-80
Monday, Janaury 25, 2010 - The Elko County Sheriff Department made a traffic stop over the weekend on Interstate 80 at mile marker 303 that turned up several pounds of marijuana. According to sheriff’s report, the vehicle was failing to maintain a travel lane and when pulled over, the occupants seemed excessively nervous. The k-9 drug sniffing dog was called in as was a telephonic search warrant Both occupants were arrested on charges of unlawful possession for sales and booked into the Elko County Jail.
Spring Creek Trailer Home Catches Fire
A Spring Creek family is homeless, pets were lost, and sadly, a child playing with fire may be the cause of the accidental blaze on Tiffany Drive. Elko County Undersheriff Doug Gailey said fire authorities were continuing to investigate the exact cause of the Friday morning fire after a small boy alerted his mother to the emergency.
Fortunately no one was hurt in the fire. The Northeast Nevada Chapter of the Red Cross was able to provide temporary shelter for the displaced family.
Sellers New Elko High Football Coach
Thursday, January 21, 2010 - Elko High School wishes to announce the hiring of Luke Sellers as the new football coach for the school. Coach Sellers was the offensive coordinator for Elko under coach Bob Milligan for seven years and has been the assistant wrestling coach for 13 years.
Coach Sellers graduated from Wooster High School where he was an outstanding athlete in football, wrestling, and baseball. He went on to play baseball at Lassen College and Nevada.
Sellers will be in studio Friday morning on News 10 Today from 6am-7am to discuss where the program goes from here.
Thiefs "Grab n Go" From Wal Mart
Wednesday, January 20, 2010- A trio of out-of state men was arrested on suspicion of burglary and related counts as police seek a fourth suspect in a recent “grab and go” theft at an Elko department store. City Police Captain Will Lehmann said police were called after WalMart security followed the thieves to a vehicle waiting outside the store. (insert Burg Trio) 19-year-old Rodriguez Dalton of Ontario, Oregon, Gary Simmons, 41, of Sacramento and 21-year-old Matthew Brown also of Ontario, were being held at the Elko County Jail as police await a warrant to search the suspect vehicle for stolen items.

Wednesday, January 20, 2010 - A series of storms are projected to dump several inches of dnow in the valleys and up to a foot of snow in the mountains Wednesday night thru Friday.

Former Elko BLM Manager Promoted
Wednesday, January 20, 2010 -A former Elko BLM District Manager who moved to Arizona as an associate director has been named Colorado State Director of the BLM. Helen Hankins will assume her new role on February 1st. National Director Bob Abbey made the announcement, describing Hankins “depth and breadth of experience as exceptional,” he said he is “very pleased” she accepted the crucial position. An Idaho native, Hankins started with the BLM as a clerk-typist in 1970 and has worked for BLM in Durango, Anchorage and Fairbanks, Washington DC, Elko and Phoenix. She is one of the first of two women to Complete the BLM Minerals Law School Program.
Roof Blows Off Spring Creek Trailer
Tuesday, January 19, 2010 - Whipping winds Monday caused the roof to blow off a Spring Creek trailer home. The local Red Cross is helping the displaced family with place to stay. More gusty winds and snow is in the forecast for the rest of the work week.
Local Man Arrested for Armed Robbery
Tuesday, January 19, 2010 - Elko Police arrested 27-year old Clint Moss of Elko on several charges including Armed Robbery, Assault with a Deadly Weapon and possession of a stolen vehicle. Moss is accussed of robbing several local businesses Monday, including the Tesoro Gas Station and Wal-Mart, where he was eventually arrested.
