Wild Horse Sanctuary
Saving America's Mustangs proposed Wild Horse Eco Sanctuary may be a step closer to reality in Elko County as Madeleine Pickens' plan to promote and preserve free-roaming herds has advanced to the next phase, but "hold your horses," as the proposal is not a done deal as BLM spokeswoman Lesli Ellis reminds.  "Mustang Monument" is proposed as an education facility, site of year round tourism and a new way to manage the federally protected animals. The sanctuary would stretch some 900 square miles between Wells and the Utah border.
