Changes to Elko's Liquor Code
There may be changes to Elko's Liquor Code to tighten requirements for volunteer servers at special events and give the police chief greater power to shut down an out of control establishment, but there will be no "Last Call for Alcohol." After several hours of discussion city leaders abandoned the idea to shut down small bars between 2 and eight a.m. Police Chief Don Zumwalt says the goal is to make downtown safer in the wake of heightened violence and three deaths last summer.
