Woman Found Dead on North Fifth Street
The Elko County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a woman whose body was found lying nearby a pickup truck that appeared to have been driven off north Fifth Street and was stuck. According to a sheriff's Press Release, it appears the victim, identified as 58 year old Claire Smith of Elko, may have slipped on ice after getting out of the vehicle, striking her head, and was overcome by hypothermia. Authorities do not suspect foul play although an autopsy will be performed to determine cause of death. The gray pickup truck was spotted early Saturday, authorities believe the victim may have been stranded sometime Friday night.
